Did this need a new topic? Is the council thread still going?

But don't bother paying extra for mushrooms...50p extra for a mushroom about the size of a 50p!

I used to eat in 'spoons at Gatwick quite lot. The food's normally fairly decent and being able to order on thier app is great if you're in a pub that's busy or on your own.

Pizzas are really good. Chicken wings are great too. In a recent programme, a chef with his own high end curry restaurant reviewed a 'spoons curry, at £7.99 with an alcoholic drink compared to £24 with no drink in his own restaurant. He gave it 7/10, as admitted the portion was bigger than his.

And meals delivered to the table within 10 mins of ordering, usually quicker.

For a quick and cheap meal with a pint, Spoons cannot be beaten.

You can't beat a Spoon's meal.... Unlike your wife. hehe

Stay away from the steaks but burgers / pizzas / wings / and particularly breakfasts are I think bargains.

I like Spoons meals and breakfasts for what they are. I often call in at a certain Spoons pub where I can park my motorbike right up to the window so I can keep an eye on it, order a steal meal & drink on the app, and within minutes it arrives. Cheap as chips too.

I was chatting to a Spoons landlady who said they hate the app as the orders are timed and have to be served within a set number of minutes, whereas orders over the counter they can take as long as they like. Guess which option I choose biggrin.

It rather depends where they are I think. There's some which aren't too bad. Then there are others which you wouldn't wish on your worst enemy. More often than not they're an 'avoid at all costs' for me. The knights templar is the only one I think I have ever been in that wasn't a total horror show.

Avoid at all costs? Really? Why?

Considering they are a huge chain, always have security, are covered CCTV (including on staff in our local one), I struggle to see why you would avoid at all costs, unless you mean the food? Which for the price is perfectly adequate.

I thoroughly enjoy a Wetherspoons, steaks obviously aren’t great but for two curry’s and two drinks for about £16 you can’t really moan when a pint is £3.50 odd in there.

I’ve never been in one that I’d call ‘rough’, Liverpool, Wrexham, Glasgow, Blackpool, all over N Wales, South Coast, Derby, Nottingham iirc, Manchester, etc.

Security, CCTV are two things that really should warn you as to what sort of people are going to be inside.

Awful decor, awful crimes against amazing buildings in many cases, awful people (young and old), it's just an all round no. Unless there's almost no choice (at an airport, say).

Pints of ale were £1.99 in the spoons I was drinking in yesterday. Bargain.

People on here are hilarious snobs at times.

IME Wetherspoons holds a mirror up to the locale in which it is set. In nice towns they are very civilised, in rough areas they are like a Hogarth painting.

So if you think the whole chain is full of ghastly daytime drunks and wifebeaters, it's probably because you don't live in a nice area yourself.

Work a bit harder and you may be able to afford to move somewhere nice. wink

I regularly visit Spoons in Perth and Blairgowrie, both are perfectly decent and I am a big fan of the fish and chips.
As others have said, generally the best ones are in the best areas.
