I'm desperately trying to get out of my dead end consultancy CAD job by doing a HNC in Construction Management. Problem I'm finding is that despite living in a city of tower cranes I can't get even an entry level trainee site management job!

Does anybody here work in recruitment for the housebuilding sector and has the time to look over my CV?

Can't help re - recruitment and CV advice.

However, I work in construction management- November/December/January is usually quiet in terms of recruiting.

Also, have you got a CSCS card? If not, you can apply for a white card which will make you more attractive to potential employers as its a requirement to access most sites these days.

Another course you can look into is the SSSTS/SMSTS, both health and safety tests that will improve your skills to a potential employer.

Finally, I'd suggest contacting local construction recruitment firms to discuss potential options starting as an assistant site manager.

I have both a CSCS card and an SMSTS certificate.

Have you got SMST (site manager) or SSSTS (assistant site manager) and first aid training ?

Do you have any direct management experience ?

I had smsts, H&S some experience didn’t even get a sniff, a lot of it is who you know.

Where are you based

I'm a site manager. I started out as a graduate with a main contractor.

Given you don't have any experience yet, I think your best bet would be to try to get on a graduate or trainee scheme. You're not going to get an assistant site manager role without 2-3yrs training on such a scheme.

You will need to approach companies directly for these schemes I think, rather than via external recruitment agencies. I expect your CAD experience means you are familiar with drawings, and being able to use CAD software will come in handy, so you have some transferable skills already.

Good luck.
