Didn’t hear much about the young Somali kid anywhere so I thought I’d post.

We live in a pretty rough times but this chap is certainly a hero in every sense of it.

I had not yet seen this in the news. Tragic - an 80-something woman being attacked with a knife, and this poor guy losing his life while defending her.

Very upsetting for his family but I hope they are proud too.

Boy? Kid? Says he was 20. A full grown man.

Plus alleged attacker is 37; strange age to be carrying a knife given it seems to be a "young mans" game.

TX.

Don't be stupid.

I read the headline and was expecting a 10-13 year old lad , that would be a BOY.

A 20 year old man can easily be physically larger/stronger than a 37 year old and possibly that is why he thought he could jump in and get involved with a nutter armed with a knife.

A very very courageous move but as we are all told too often it's a somewhat silly thing to do.

R.I.P to the lad. Sounds like he really did die a hero.

Unfortunately plenty of hero's in the graveyard.

But what are you to do? Faced with a similar situation seeing a vulnerable old lady being attacked? Traditionally most decent folk would wade in to try and help. Maybe not so much any more.

Its hard to know without being there. It would be silly to wade in knowing you are going to a certain death if you are unlikely to make a difference, but it would be quite cowardly to walk on by or only call 999 when it looked like you could help but you didnt want to risk it.

Without being there that bit is hard to judge.

I was curious about the strange choice of words, and the motive behind them.

Cheers, I'll have a chocolate hobnob.

Sorry, I've scoffed them all, there's only Rich tea left and they have a taste of ginger from the biscuits that were previously in the tin.

Agreed. I was expecting to hear about a kid, not a fully grown man (still tragic though). At 20 I'd been in the armed forces 4 years and was about to be promoted to a senior position. I wasn't a kid!

What a terribly brave man. And that is what he was, a man, and deserves to be called so.
A true credit to his family and upbringing. RIP fella

It's a pity this doesn't seem to have been reported very widely, yes. It's a sad story, but you'd hope that at the least, people could know what he did.

Agree that "boy" and "kid" seem very out of place, though.
