Probably wrong forum, but here we go.
Recently purchased a Ford Focus from a local main dealer, after some heavy rain I noticed some water pooling under the spare wheel, and generally in the boot area, probably half a cup. No water or dampness in the rear foot wells.
The internal nearside wheel arch cover in the boot was very wet along the botom it it.
Had it in for a check, report says checked around tail lamps, removed & refitted all okay, checked body seals, all OK. Removed rear bumper & checked drains, cleaned out drains.
I asked how water got in, told all cars leak and thats why there is drains in the boot area, but doesnt sound right to me??
Any ideas, I did notice myself today checking around, along the botom of the offside rear door thers is about 45 cm of rubber missing.

What shoddy service from the dealer. The only car I've ever had leak has been due to a design flaw on the weather sripping. Youtube had an answer which as above involved DIY sealant.
I'm told a good tip if you can't find the leak is to strip the boot and sprinkle talc everywhere. When the water comes in it washes away the talc so you can see the water ingress point.

There are air vents in the rear quarter panels behind the bumpers which can only be accessed if the bumper is removed. I believe water can sneak in as condensation running down the inside of the rear quarter panels.
There are also little rubber bungs in the corners of the boot which can be accessed from under the bumper whilst its still fitted which can be opened up to help get water OUT.

Do a search, I believe it’s a very common problem. Don’t quote me but it’s possibly something to do with the rear lights or the slam vents.

Agreed. Cars shouldn't leak. IMHO the only reason you have drain holes is for spillage / water getting in when the boot or doors are openDealer saying this with a straight face? Tit.
