Thinking about the Taxi driver from the bomb (yes probably wasn't a hero) but made me think, I've not done anything like saving a life etc, so wondered if anyone on here has?

I've talked to a few potential suicides long enough for help to get to them. No idea if they were actually serious, though. I was elbowed out of the way by a large Australian as I was about to do the Heimlich on someone choking on a sandwich on the tube. He did a cracking job and the bolus flew past my elbow.

Am I a hero? Not for me to judge…but probably yes.

- I have deployed to MAJOR EVENTS to help set up and take down seating.

- Pulled stranded cars from muddy festival parking fields.

- Defended (with my life if need be) a road closure on a Remembrance Day Sunday. Battling with entitled MOPs

- er…and many more that don’t spring to mind right now.

It can be a lonely life, that of a hero. Trained by time-served professionals, my Leather-man holstered on me at all times, my his viz buckled tight.

I have no time for women. I’m focused, one eye open kind of guy, drinking shots of weak lemon drink, ready to deploy.

Can you be the hero if you nearly killed someone?

I remember driving down my rd one very late evening with my girlie of the time.

Pretty foggy and dull (the weather not the chic!)

Anyway saw a carpet dumped in the rd and nearly just drove over it eek it moved it was a pi$$ed pensioner who'd been out for his birthday. So we put him in my car and we still have him,

Joking.

Took him home to the local pension flats where he lived, the bugger tried to almost drag us in for some soup? Whatever that was? He was very grateful for the lift and I didn't tell him he was almost roadkill!!!

Absolutely this , son and a few close friends are firefighters and the st they see on a daily basis is beyond most of us . They're also classed as paramedics here so have the delights of ODs etc . Couple of "heroic" episodes in my time , but nothing compared to what the full time peeps do day in day out .

I house shared with a girl once who started having a fit in the kitchen

Fainted suddenly but I managed to grab her head before she hit the floor. She then started shaking and then just stopped. was so weird.. I had never seen anything like it.
Called 999 and paramedics come out.. she just started to come around as they arrived and she told me her medical details were on her phone or something.

Showed the paramedic and he tried to take the piss. Saying something along the lines of ''Ahh OK, she's fine.. why did you call us ? ''
I was pretty pissed off at this so said '' She fking fainted and started shaking, what did you expect me to do''

Anyway she was OK after that and turned out if happens quite a bit but glad I was there to help her

Many years ago. Early 90’s.
Residential battalion in Northern Ireland.
Cut a long story short.
Went out on the piss to a “safe” area.
Very drunk girl being taken away to one side by someone that’s not obviously her boyfriend as I’d seen her with him previously.
Quite obvious what was going to happen to her so I intervened and stopped what was happening.
Lad wasn’t happy with me about it but I didn’t care about him or his petty threats lol
Took the girl off him and took her back to her boyfriend, explained to him what had happened.
Thanked me for it which I think pained him a little as I was obviously a British soldier even though I was in civvies.
Walked off and left him and his mates to deal with the rapey perv.

Similar to the previous poster, young lady collapsed in a lift, in a large office block in London, I'd recently re-certified my St. John's, so had a rough idea what to do. She was seizing and her lips were turning blue, managed to pull her out onto the next floor, and put her in the recovery position, and make a note of her vitals. "Security" were next to useless "rent-a-cop wannabes from the Walt thread"; I called the paramedics myself, quite quick to attend, she's awake and obviously in shock when they arrived. I kept holding her hand and talking with her (name was Claire). Needed a stiff one after that.

A Hero - No, did I do what any reasonable human being would do in the circumstances, I guess so.

You’re mum wants you to bring the bins in. It’s a bit dark, don’t forget your 20,000 lumen head torch. The flags are a bit slippy.

Ribena tango lilt. Over and out.

At pedestrian crossings, I semi-regularly have to pull someone back from stepping into traffic. Maybe if they looked up from their phone, they'd see the cars coming.

I caught a cat that fell from scaffolding once. I was surprised that it acted grateful afterwards. That was more rewarding than the zombie pedestrians.

I once pushed the STOP button on the escalators, when someone fell over.
Thankfully there were other people that helped the chap that fell over.

CPR'd/re-started my daughter's heart when she got home from post natal.
She was born 3 months prem, came home 3 months later.
choked on some milk.
Most of her fitted within the span of my hand, and we'd had 5 mins training.... slapping her back, pumping her chest with two fingers etc...
got her back before an amazingly quick ambulance got there.

It sure if this counts, but I saved my then very young daughter from chocking whilst on the Eurostar to Paris.

She was sat next to her mum, munching on something. I was sat maybe 2 or 3 rows back due to a cock up with the booking. Suddenly mum shouts out and I spring up out of my seat and start delivering first aid. All whilst whizzing through the French countryside. When it was all said and done I returned to my seat and had a little weep.

Intervened when I saw a bloke kicking his girlfriend! Got all righteous in his face and kept him away until he gave up and stormed off.
He was much bigger than me, but I was ok as my mate had my back... Except when I turned round he'd buggered off as he was scared.
