Just received this email, are Amazon really binning Visa or is this a weasel scam attempt to get debit card info? I don’t know about others but my debit card doesn’t go anywhere near any websites, full stop. If I can’t use my Credit card I won’t use the website.

More than likely a scam. What email address is it from?

This would be in the news as it affects all customers.
It’s not a scam https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

Yep see more people have received it so clearly not. I deleted my post in light of that.

It’s a big move by them

Very much this. A bit of corporate willy-waving that's gone public.

The chances of this actually happening IMO are practically nil.

Seems odd that they are binning Visa but not Amex. Amex charges are astronomical.

Amazon are hardly going to tell their UK customers to update their payment method by the middle of Jan next year and then have to tell them again "oh, okay then, you can use them again after all", before the change has happened, are they ?

I'd say the chances of this happening is the total opposite of practically nil.

On the BBC news website this morning as well. Think some one already mentioned, it is over there charges (so I assume Amazon already do not accept American Express or Diners Card) and the credit card only.

Of course you could accuse Amazon of possibly using it as an excuse to get people to take up their credit card.

For many banks now, the advantage to using debit cards is your phone app will alert you to any purchases with the card so you will know straight away if someone else is using yours (at which point the card fraud hot lines are free calls).

Another Brexit bonus!

EU cap the fees so I can continue to use my visa cards without issue.

Amazon do accept Amex. I always understood that their merchant fees were quite a bit higher than Visa or Mastercard, but maybe they did a deal for Amazon?

I think that Visa must be taking a lot of hits at the moment. I have 2 credit cards via my bank, one for personal use, and one for business. They sent me new cards back in January because they had made the move from Visa to Mastercard.

Except where businesses stop taking Visa cards, of course.

Seems EU cards are accepted still, but my UK issued one isn’t.

I have Prime more or less by mistake, but having signed up I have used it - the TV streaming stuff is OK, and I’ve purchased via Amazon where I otherwise wouldn’t have.

I don’t plan to change to using my debit card, so this will cost Amazon my (admittedly limited) custom. They won’t notice, and I suspect I won’t either.

I wonder how much extra Amazon pay for not bothering with CVV numbers, or how much the consequences cost.

I'll wait, I don't NEED amazon or any of their services.

Ultimately if they bin my card I'll not be renewing.

My Debit and Credit instantly pop up alerts on my phone when a transaction takes place.

won't really make a lot of difference to us - we got an Ocean cc (I know, I know!) for internet usage only and that's a master. That said it does look like a bit of a spat (which will doubtless be resolved)

I think we use the same bank.

I now have two new non visa debit cards.

They ask for mine.

Visa seem to be hell bent on killing their UK business - Many UK banks are swapping to Mastercard.
