Morning all!
I am finally on the home straight with my Chim resto - with last few jobs being: carpet the boot, sort wiper motor/blades etc, fit front brake conversion, fix faulty fuel gauge and sound system.
So, at the moment I have two holes where door speakers go and same where the stereo goes. I have opted for the Pioneer sph10bt, but I would be keen to hear what speakers are preferred. Ideally, I dont want to cut the panel to allow bigger speakers if possible.
I am running, Precats removed, Clive Y decat and Act cherry bomb - so I dont really expect to listen to music too often but might as well have something that works!
Any thoughts/suggestions - welcome

I got a set of these - fit original holes (in an 'S') and matched to the same stereo.

I have the DAB version of that Pioneer head unit. My car has a stock exhaust and also has speakers in the parcel shelf. It struggles to make itself heard over the engine and wind noise even with the roof on at motorway speeds. I am planning to add a separate amplifier. Might be worth plumbing it in now while the car is apart?

I fitted JL Audio C2-600X in my doors without having to enlarge the holes. They sound great with the ignition off and you can hear them on the motorway at cursing speeds. I keep thinking maybe I should spray the naff sliver rings black . Those Pioneer ones look a bargain. My main motivation for swapping was to neaten up the battered grills and they'd have done the job for £10 a side.

Good thinking! I need to re-carpet the boot so could make a frame for Amp prior to doing so!Some pictures here: https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

Thanks Indigo, I like these! My interior is quite dark with just a few silver bits, dials, stalks etc so I quite like the silver! I actually did loads and loads of research regarding front speakers. I wanted the best I could get (without going silly), and was advised components were the way to go. After sifting through loads that didn't fit, I found I could run some 6.5 inch (yes 6.5..!) Hertz Mille Pro MPK 165 - 110w RMS Components - £300. Yes I had to enlarge the holes slightly, and I cannot run the mesh grille (think I actually prefer without it, as you can actually see what you've paid for). But they These puppies do rock, however at full volume they do highlight that a TVR door is not the best for a heavy moving speaker. Tweeters are lovely, just the right amount of separation, OK so they don't sit in a nice enclosure and are on show, but hey was prepared for this rather than ripping the door card off and sinking into it.
Although many will feel these are enough, I'm going to add some rear 6x9's next year, to make use of the amp (4 x 125w). After having my car for 20yrs+ felt it was time to actually hear some music. For me (a music lover) it was long overdue.
