Its going to be a much more culturally suitable place for them.

I dont see an issue with this, apart from the cost. However you and I pay if they stay here or abroad, we pick up the bill either way.

Offshore processing has always been the only realistic solution. The French are glad to be rid of them so no matter how much you pay them they aren't going to stop it.

Whether this actually happens or not is another matter of course.

Apparently this was being discussed last summer and Bojo the clown put a stop to things.

In terms of the cost the main consideration is the deterrent effect.

Yup, this was one of the early proposals made, to establish an off shore immigrant processing unit.
Maybe Government has seen enough of the ever increasing channel crossings being made into the U.K. and enough is enough. Certainly the current system adds to the attractiveness of the U.K. to immigrants. No idea of the polls showing support / non support of the failing system but guess Government cannot afford to be seen to fail on this issue.

I'd house them somewhere in the Shetlands over winter with a free ride home on offer but this is nearly as good.

The Albanian ambassador has denied this I believe. So if someone has leaked this to the press for positive coverage it is before it has been agreed with the other side of the negotiations.

Could have been leaked by one of many in Whitehall who would love to see every decent idea cut off before it even gets going.

The vast majority do no harm? Let’s see how long Yorkshire CC lasts now it’s cultural enrichment has been fully felt.

Albania seem to be denying this arrangement. Offshore processing didn't work for Australia anyway, they became a liability to the government because of the very high crime levels within the camps.

I suspect the flow of migrants will increase substantially now news is getting back that this is an easy route to an OECD country. If we are already getting 1100 per day crossing in winter imagine next summer.

If I where a French politician I'd be handing out vouchers for boats, a problem shared is a problem solved and a boat is way cheaper than processing an asylum application.

The Nazis had a similar plan for European Jews - send them to Madagascar. They eventually gave up on that idea as being impractical and expensive and came up with an alternative plan.

Don't worry a Tory donor or Serco will be getting very rich off the backs of the taxpayer if this little fantasy ever came to pass.

Spoiler alert. It won't happen, more gaslighting from the tories as they are tanking in he opinion polls so time to scare the old folks (who incidentally are more likely to be killed by covid than a terrorist).

I agree totally. Someone will pick up a nice lucrative contract along the line.

FWIW even though I do not like to see these economic migrants arriving on our shores, with regards to the genuine refugees, displacing already displaced people is not going to help anyone at all.

Instead of flying them to Albania why not fly them straight back to Iran/Iraq/Syria/wherever?

They break various laws to get here therefore we have justification for deporting lawbreakers.

Word will soon get around & the flow might reduce significantly.

I read the title as them being flown to Alabama. Not sure how that would work out.

I do love the way the frothers start frothing at any mention of the UK being horrible to refugees.

The article says it will cost about £100k per head per year. Not sure where the figure comes from but if it close to correct then if 33k arrive this year that £3.3bn a year. It seems to take about 2 years for the BF to make a decision with about 65% being accepted. Say it then takes 2 years to deport someone. When the system is fully operation that's £8.8bn a year.

Since 65% will be allowed into the UK and even those who's claims are rejected will get 4 years of full board and a place to sleep why do you think this will put anyone off?
