As per usual, mine is starting to let go of the bonnet and is looking scruffy.

I can obviously re stick it, but was wondering what your solutions have been? Anyone colour coordinated their heat shielding? Was it expensive?

This is a winter job along with painting the plenum and rocker covers and generally tidy up the engine bay.

I'll post up a pic of my untidy engine bay tomorrow for your suggestions.

Chimaerapartsonline do a nice pre made set if you want something that should be similar material to your engine bay heat matting.
It’s an old Tvr nut who set up on his own doing specialist bits for our cars years ago now and a fine gentleman to deal with too.
Or you can buy your material and make them if you have a sowing machine handy. smile
You have your originals for templates so probably a rewarding job.

Yes but they are not new and shiny biggrin
Some hi temp bond and then de grease them in place then for about a Tenner thumbup

If you have a helper the bonnet comes off fairly easily which gives great access to engine but I reckon you probably know that already smile

I do.

Thanks for the website, for £139.00 I might just get new. Got any bonding recommendations? I'm guessing ordinary spray carpet adhesive isn't going to stand the heat, although it'll be on the 'cold' side?

Based on someone else’s recommendation, I used Unibond no more nails double sided tape to stick the peeling edges of mine back into place.
It’s only been a month or two but so far so good.
It was also easy to use.

Thanks! CBS are brilliant. Used them many times last year for bits for the Trabant.

Whatever amount of adhesive comes with the kit, or is recommended, you need about 3 x as much. I think it is high temp epoxy resin IIRC

This is the current scenario. Apologies for the iffy pic, phone in one hand, bonnet in the other.

It comes down to how clean you want them.
A can of high temp Epoxy resin would sort our what is wrong with your present set IMHO.
My set were new about 4 years ago and now look like yours in terms of cleanliness, but then I do about 4,000 miles a year in all weathers

I might give them a scrub up with some cleaner and see what they look like.

I had half a tube of sikaflex left over after doing some work a few years ago and used it to stick down the flappy edges on mine, it's all still stuck up there.

Even I could make that biglaugh
Not so easy with the multi cut ones.
Funnily enough once I’d stripped my old ones out the engine bay I realised I could have quite easily re cut some material using originals as templates, But happy enough to buy pre made for the money involved and time it takes to make them.

I think the heat only effects things when going slow or stationary, I wager most Tvr with a decent air filter, the plenum will be stone cold when cars on the move and masses of cold air hitting it.
The engine heat is really just thrown backwards via the tunnel so not particularly hot above it.

Silkaflex probably would hold it as you say.

Very true Alun , the local dressmaker wanted £15 when I collected the fabric (she had no objection working with said material) I gave her a drink obviously, but yes when you weigh some things up its not worth doing yourself scratchchin the only reason I got the fabric first was so I could get it made to measure to my bonnet as the OE TVR fitted one was cocked and poorly sized IIRC
