New car time

It's time to move on my ageing 220,000 mile XC90. I don't want to spend more than 2k, it must be an estate and something that does more than 50mpg would be nice.

So far I'm thinking either Skoda Octavia or Mondeo.

Any other recommendations?

Same engine as my XC90, that won't get 50 mpg, ever. But yeah nice car.

C5 VTR+ you'll get an okay one for your budget they have the same drivetrain as the Mondeo/508:

You'll have to haggle but you can get a decent Insignia just make sure you get the oil pick up pipe fix sorted.

What about a Hyundai i40? I was in a taxi one of these the other night with 186,000 miles on it. Taxi driver said he ran a previous one to 500,000 miles

Our xc90 just hit 150k. I can't see a car that would begin to replace it for reasonable money.
I'd suggest you buy a more recent one., and keep putting-up with 29mpg (with a boat on the roof).
