As the wife's Hyundai Santa Fe seems to be starting to cost money, has awful fuel economy, has a few niggley little faults I can't seem to fix, will need tyres in the near future etc I am thinking it might be time for something a bit new and cheaper to run.

Most of the trips it gets used for are less than 10 miles and we don't really need 7 seats and 4x4 anymore so a PHEV seems to make sense. It does need to be big enough for 4 adults ans have a decent boot for the dog, holidays and stuff.

We have looked at kia Niro today but the boot wasn't big enough which only really leaves the Mitsubishi Outlander, or so I thought, until the MG HS came up on the radar. Reviews seem quite good and it looks like better value, we would be looking at second hand. We aren't too bother about it being a sporty drive and it will be the family hack.

Anyone got any idea about reliability etc or suggest anything else?

Have a look at the Ioniq PHEV, it's actually a bit more spacious than the Niro (I've had both!), boot is wider and deeper. Also worth a look is the Optima PHEV in estate form.

That's interesting... I would be quite happy with either but she wants an suv type thing, I'll work on it!
