Hi,

So I need to remove some security screws so bought a Draper set from Toolstation. Here’s what the bit I need looks like:

I want to use this with my 1/4 socket set but the end of the bit that I’d put a socket or appears to be 6.5mm… why is it this odd size? I don’t posses a socket this size, am I missing something?

It’s a 1/4” bit, ie 6.35mm obvs. There are multiple solutions of sockets and holders for this common bit size.

Right so I want to use my 1/4 inch square ratchet with this bit, but I’m unsure what to search to to find this adapter, can you give me any pointers? Any I search for doesn’t seem to bring anything that would work up.

1/4 inch af imperial socket will work. Or maybe screwdriver bit adapter.

You are looking for a 1/4” drive,1/4” bit holder.

Any socket set that included drive bits would include the holder. It's not unusual for bit sets bought separately to include a holder. The holder is commonly a hex socket with a detent clip to hold the bit in place. They're all a standard size in my experience (I think it's 1/4" AF) so if you ever get hold of one, it'll do for everything.

Thanks all much appreciated - I've ordered that 1/4" drive to hex adapter that was recommended.

I read somewhere that these security screws are "righty loosey, lefty tighty", can anyone confirm this?

Almost never. You’ll know straight away if you go at it sensibly.
