PC soak test SW

Anyone know any good (free) SW for soak testing PC's? My work machine keeps stopping with XP's very helpful "Hardware Malfunction. The system has halted, contact your hardware vendor." screen. Not particularly helpful!

I need to soak test it to find out what's busted. Gut feel is it's hardware, as when you warm boot it on the reset switch nine times out of ten the caps, scroll and numlock lights stay on and it doesn't boot.

Prefer something OS independant that is self booting or runs off DOS.

Pulling the memory a stick at a time is going to be quicker and easier.

Doubt theres a bit of software out there that will report, in any meaningful form, what is going on when it dies.

memtest86 for testing your only stick is included in Knoppix, IIRC.
