Hi all,

We are going to be buying a 65” TV for our new build on Black Friday. Was thinking of an LG OLED but the room is bright and has an almost complete wall of glass so reflections worry me as well as the brightness.

Would this put you off the OLED? What else should I consider given the wide viewing angles, reflections and brightness?

Pics below of the room. TV going on the far wall on second pic.

OLED is good and has got better. Will look OK in bight room but QLED TV on a very sunny day should be better. At night I would want the OLED as the blacks really are something else.

Thanks. We are going for an OLED in the living room which will be used more on an evening and for films etc.

So maybe a QLED will be better in the room above which is where we will spend most of our day?

Is NeoQLED worth the extra premium over QLED?

We have a Sony AF8 in the orangery, similar to yours albeit in a potentially brighter spot as there's less distance to the glass. The Sony is an older generation of panel and in the day it is absolutely fine. The LG G1 we have in the living room is certainly brighter and I was concerned about not making use of the brightest panel in the brightest room, but there was no need to worry. Sorry about the photos, a) I know the TV is too high (re-used the mount the previous owner left) and b) we had just moved in so its a mess!

Ah thanks very much. Your TV is almost certainly going to be in a brighter space than ours; closer to the glass as you say and also your roof lantern is much closer.

Assume you have no issues with reflections in the AF8?

Sorry for the off topic question - but would you be able to share the dimensions of your room?

We’re in self build planning mode and wondering how big to make our kitchen / living space. Thank you!

No problem. 6.9 x 9.1m. Floor plan of house below if it helps. The photos above are old and we are hoping to move in before Christmas. Kitchen install started yesterday so if you remind me again in 2 weeks I’ll have better pics of how the space works.

QLED due to the brightness, no matter which way you cut it OLED cannot get close to the brightness and dont handle reflections as well, especially from direct light sources.

In terms of neoQLED vs QLED, Neo is better at controlling localised dimming to avoid blooming. Essentially aiming to get closer to true black.

I can't remember having a problem but I'll keep an eye out for any moments of sun (!) and try and take some photos. OLEDs are more reflective for sure, so consider the viewing angles when looking at what might get reflected - its not just the windows but lights etc as well.

Given your floorplan shows the TV in the darker section anyway, I think you'd be fine. Go LG G1 or anything that uses that generation of panel and you'll give yourself a bit more brightness to play with. No doubt you'll get brighter with other technologies but I wouldn't trade OLED's PQ if I could avoid it!

Thanks all. Been into John Lewis today and the reflections on the QLED and NeoQLED’s were comparable to the OLED so I’m going to stick with that.
