Currently running OpenMediaVault and looking to switch. I need it to serve CIFS/SMB, NFS, run Plex Media Server and ideally Duplicati (or some other backup thing that can send to Backblaze B2 cloud storage). Any suggestions for a decent alternative?

I’ve used Unraid for the past 8 years or so. I find it fantastic and hugely flexible. As it’s based on Linux there is excellent docker support for you Plex and it’s ultra reliable. I also run a number of VM’s off of it.

It should do everything you need and load of stuff you don’t realise you need yet wink

Do you need to use Docker for stuff like Plex?

You can run it as a plugin but using the docker is more flexible and tends to be more stable/up to date - for example I have the docker set to use my RAM as a transcode space to avoid all the read/writes to my NVMe drive. It’s super simple in a docker image as you can map the ram share to a transcode file

Five years of UnRaid usage here. Terrific platform and their App Store for plugins and docker containers makes using them a cinch. Takes all of 2 minutes to set up a Plex container when you’re used to it. Lots of community support on their forums and YouTube to help you out too.

Running all of that on omv5 except nfs using docker for Plex and duplicati. Duplicati to Backblaze b2. Runs well and containers are great way to avoid fiddling in the installed os

Tempted to run unraid on my qnap. I find the qnap software fairly dreadful and bloated.
