I still have £600 worth of Love2Shop physical gift cards that are proving very difficult to spend. I want to use them towards an iPhone 12 for my daughters birthday, but it is proving impossible as the only companies I can use are

Argos - Don't have the phone in stock and you can only use one voucher per transaction
Currys - Have the phone online but you cannot use these vouchers for mobile phone purchases online. I went to a store yesterday, you guessed it no stock
John Lewis - I can convert them to John Lewis eGift cards but they don't have stock.

So I am stuck with £600 of these useless gift cards that I cannot spend. One option is to convert them to an Anywhere Mastercard but I lose 10%. The money is all in £75 physical cards so from what I understand each £75 will be a seperate Anywhere Mastercard, again utterly useless as you can only use one credit card per transaction.

So I had a thought, is it possible to convert these to the Anywhere Mastercard, lose the 10% and then use them to pay my personal credit card or transfer to my Paypal account? Obviously I will lose 10% but right now I would take that to get rid of these useless cards.

Oh, there is absolutely nothing else I want to buy with them so this is the only way I can see of getting rid of them.

IIRC you cannot use a credit card to pay off another credit card - unless it is a balance transfer - but I could be wrong. Ask your credit card company perhaps?

Alternatively, transfer the funds onto the Anywhere credit card and use that for all your day to day expenditure until it’s all gone.

I doubt it - prepaid cards are normally blocked from those kind of transactions for money laundering reasons.

You can often buy gift cards with them though - I managed to use a $20 gift card (yes, $) on Amazon UK to buy a £14 gift card through amazon and then put it on my account for later.

You can only use the Anywhere Mastercard them for online purchases, I can't think of a single thing I want so it will take ages to get rid of them. Plus you end up with all these messy small amounts of money as you will need to spend exactly £75 each time so I will end up buying junk with them.

John Lewis have the next size up in the colour she wants so it looks like she might be getting a better phone than she thought as I just want rid of them now.

If anyone ever suggests getting Love2Shop vouchers for someone's birthday, bonus or leaving present kindly punch them in the mouth for me.

I see - didn’t know that - I had something from BT once I could use that anywhere, hence my reply.

I am sure your daughter will appreciate the new phone!

Just to conclude this thread, I woke up to an email from John Lewis this morning to say they now had the iPhone 12 in White in stock.

I immediately logged into my Love2Shop account and converted £575 of vouchers to John Lewis £50 and £25 vouchers, 15 of them in total. Within 20 minutes I had received the codes as emails and copied them all into notepad.

I went online, selected the phone, clicked to pay with e-gift cards and nervously entered the first one which it accepted to problem. I then entered the remaining 14 one by one and to my amazement it accepted them all with a remainder of £104 to pay on my debit card.

Very pleased they are gone and I only have £6.11 left which I will spend in Wilkos next time I am in town.

So for future reference, converting them to John Lewis e-gift cards and using them online is by far the best way of getting rid of them.
