My local garage rang asking if I was selling my E-Golf. They want to give me what I paid for it as an ex- demonstrator nearly two years later. I am tempted but in all honesty I have no idea what EV I would replace it with. I went to look at the new Kia EV6 but it's too big,

VW ID3 would seem the obvious candidate?

What's going on with used car prices BTW? Haven't bought a car in many a year but my daughters BF informed me yesterday he's thinking of selling the mint VW Scirocco TFSI he bought for £7.5k 8 months ago as been offered £10k for it..

Read an article a few days ago suggesting used car prices are 23% higher vs beginning of the year.
Manufacturers are going to have a whale of a time when this chip shortage is unblocked in 2022.

It’s mental. My lease eGolf goes back soon (base spec, free urano grey), checked the BCA service for a price to keep it - £25450!

Trouble is buying anything else - lead times are crazy, ID.3 now over a year. If you find something in stock it’ll also be at an inflated price.

My business partner walked into a Mercedes dealer in august and purchased an EQA and took delivery 2 days later, maybe he was lucky.

I placed an order for a Polestar in September, it should be here next week.

The e_Golf is doing it's job quietly and very efficiently. I'm not a fan of the ID3 as i thought the build quality over my Golf was very poor. Yes i had range, was quicker etc but slow digital controls really bugged me and the lane assist thingy disconcerting on country roads. Think I will wait until things calm down and thank the garage for the offer.

Try getting hold of one. 6-12 months wait minimum.

Depends if you want new new or nearly new 2021 models, Carwow have 20 listed with less than 1000 miles.

That's fair enough, although apparently the latest update resolves a lot of issues with the controls and lane departure can be disabled with a quick press on the end of a stalk.

Daughters BF is considering selling up as the money he will make on the car will act as a nice deposit on the RS3 lease deal he's got his eye on apparently.

This is why I'm struggling wiith the sudden increase in used prices. All seems rather manufactured?

Rumour has it the dealers are listing them but try actually buying it and they're not for sale, but "would you like to order a new one sir?".

2020 was a bad year for new sales with Covid putting people off plus WBAC and the like were offering really low figures because of the dry market, people who would have changed in 2020 are now added to those that were planning to change in 2021, the chip shortage is making new supply difficult and the low sales last year mean anything nearly new is in short supply - the demand has rocketed and the supply is limited.

That said, some of the prices are crazy though. Buy carefully as it can't last

It does all seem very odd, I have a feeling owning a car over the next few years going to become very expensive, second hand or new.

Vanarama have a MG ZS on lease, £273 a month with free insurance, £250 cash back if you book by Friday and on 10k miles. These are the facelift with 250 miles real world range. Delivered in March.

If you can live with lack of any image at all. Quite an upgrade in range from my Leaf though, 250 miles will be joyful!
