So a weird one - daughter now living in Dorset and for work reason drives at night a lot for emergency calls. So looking for an SUV so she sits a bit higher and not blinded by oncoming (v bright) headlights and front fog lights but also one that’s not too wide given how narrow some of the roads are. I’ve failed in my dad’s duty to come up with anything so now defer to the collective wisdom of the PHers!

Narrowest one I can think of of the top of my head is the Vauxhall Crossland. If your only requirements are relatively narrow and SUV/Crossover then a Crossland fits the bill.

The narrowest SUV would probably be a Subaru XV (only hybrid form now, but you may find some petrol only ones about). As with most Subarus, the motoring journos are lukewarm towards them , but owners love them. They are 4465mm long, and width 1800mm (excluding mirrors).

Ford EcoSport?

someone at work has one and while its neither economical or sporty in any way, it does appear to be quite upright, while remaining quite narrow.

EDIT - ecosport and crossland are both 1765mm width. narrower than a golf!

Try finding one. Pretty sure they haven't been sold in the UK for over a decade now and they were few and far between even then.

There are 30+ of them on autotrader at the moment.

Yep that’s where I checked first, rather than just guessing.

OP hasn’t given much info into budget or age of car either.

Honda Jazz Crosstar could also be a contender? It’s not 4WD but it’s narrow and lifted.

Most of the small SUV style cars seem to be around 1760mm wide.

This site is great for suggesting cars of a similar size:

Isn’t it a shame that the answer to the problem of SUVs is to put another on the road.

I'm not sure how wide they are, they don't look wide or if your daughters looking for new. Toyota have released a Yaris crossover, might be a good shout. Hybrid too so would be excellent on fuel.

For value for money, running costs and reliability the Suzuki Ignis takes some beating.

The Vitara is nicer looking imho and a bit bigger but still only 1775 mm wide.

A friend has an ignis, she loves it. Tiny thing, nippy, does the job, remarkable rear seat space.

Suspension is a bit on the firm side, but that's possibly just me.
