Hi all.
Had a bit of bad luck this morning with something goiong into the rad at speed on the motorway.
Anyway - to cut a long story short, has anyone had a radiator re-cored in the Surrey / Berkshire / Hampshire area? I'm on the border of all three, and would hopefully be after somewhere that can do a great job of it?
Also, has anyone had experience of doing this? Is it difficult to get the rad ini and out? What sort of time should I expect to take doing this (fairly competent mechanic, as I've had engines in and out of Mini's in my youth!)
Oh - and sorry - don't have my Bible to hand at work!!

Radiator out is an easy job - you should remove the bonnet but when I replaced my radiator I had to subsequently remove it again and did so without removing the bonnet. You will have to undo the expansion tank if yours is located on the front chassis rail and also the air intake tube. You will need two people to help lift it out if the bonnet is in place - the worst bit is draining the water (bottom hose) - worth while clearing the drainage holes in the lower body first.
There is a serck radiator specialist in Uxbridge who will collect/return your radiator if you live within their area.

Just had to take the rad out this last weekend, it is a pretty straight forward job. I managed without removing the expansion tank (just). You will need 2 people to lift it in/out. I managed with the bonnet on but was sick of banging my head on it after the job was done.
I agree that the worst bit is the bottom hose. I found undoing it from the drivers side then, reaching accross from the passenger side to pull it off.
FYI a recore up north (sheffield) was £110 + VAT.

Well - not as bad as I was thinking it was going to be. Followed the Bible (second edition) and managed to get it out without removing the bonnet.
A couple of things if you're having a go in future - the bible shows the early fans, and suggests removing them before the radiator; with the full cowl on the rad, you wont be able to reach the four bolts along the bottom edge of the radiator, so you'll have to takle the whole thing out in one go.
Managed to do the whole thing on my own, including getting the rad out, with fans attached, and without damaging anything!
Now all I have to do is follow up to let you know how it is to refit....
