Good evening,
Has anyone suffered from oil in the coolant reservoir/header tank. Just about to spend a lot of money getting it sorted. Looks like the most common fault is the oil cooler failing and most mechanical technicians say it’s very uncommon for a cylinder head gasket to fail on this particular engine. The fault started with a low coolant alarm, on inspection there was still a good level in the header but a thin emulsion floating on the top of the water. There is no sign of external leaks anywhere and no combustion gas detected in the coolant. All replies welcome from other Golf R owners.

Hi,

Did you resolve this issue, I have the same problem with my golf r. I have just changed the oil cooler and the problem still persists, any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Did you change the oil cooler due to it being diagnosed as the issue?

Did you get it fully flushed afterwards?

A common issue, the oil cooler gasket and the connecting block gasket become brittle with age and milage, causing water to escape into the oil and vice versa. Flushing the system with a proper detergent will resolve the issue.
