wedding band type advice

looking for a 6mm wedding band, what is the best metal? Would a 9k yellow gold be more durable. I dont want something I need to keep taking off, ideally to just leave on and forget. Platinum any better?

Platinum is stronger than gold. It depends if you want yellow or silver and how much you are willing to let it get scratched.

I’d get for a 9ct yellow (definitely don’t get white gold) or platinum if you prefer the colour. The darker metals with the squared off edges look a bit try hard.

I've got a simple plain titanium band. Very light so can't really notice it and easy to get used to.
I work with my hands, so this band holds up well and doesn't easily dent and scratch like the more jewelry type metals.

Mine is palladium, it was Matt with a polished edge but after 10 years it's polished itself.

As you say, lighter and cheaper than platinum but looks the same

Mines platinum and I’m happy with my choice. It’s sturdy , hasn’t deformed and I wanted a silver one. Saying that I wanted a titanium one, as I’m a mountain biker, but the wife said it was too cheap lol.

I’m afraid I was another who was more interested in putting it on and forgetting it - sounds bad! I went for titanium because my previous gold ones ended up mishapen and with dented edges from when I wasn’t careful enough to take it off. The titanium just laughs at rough treatment and carries on.

Platinum is very hard and despite almost never being removed in the 11 years I’ve been wearing it, is no more damaged than surface scuffing. I believe that gold ‘wears’ whereas platinum just marks - when scratched, material doesn’t come off the surface to anything like the same extent. So if you want a silver colour, platinum is a very good choice- but expensive, and also heavy. A 6mm band will weigh more than you think. You get used to it, but if you’re not used to wearing a ring then you’ll notice it just being there for a long time.

not sure what you mean by durability. They all get scratched and go dull. Shiny rings stay shiny for the honeymoon and that's about it. Mine is platinum, we got married in 2015 and it looks like this.

My very friendly jeweller made my ring from platinum mid last year.

not yellow and tough which met my needs.

It was either going to be platinum or palladium for me, price was pretty much the same as palladium and gold prices were what he considered artificially high.

He expected gold/palladium prices to fall back down once covid passed but looks like they haven't and are still 25% up on prices before covid hit.

Palladium here as well. Went to a smaller independent jeweller who did both our rings for the price of my wife’s (platinum) from a high street one.

Based on Mrs BVDs experience with other rings, do not go for white gold - loses colour easily.

I’ve got a tungsten ring. It’s cheap, looks good, nice weight to it and it’s a super hard metal - so stays shiny and doesn’t get scratched.
