Have had an intermittent problem with steering lock not releasing on Mk 2 column, [in a RED car before you ask:)]!!!!!!!!
I have tried the usual techniques with no joy- rattling/ wiggling key, pushing/ pulling lock in and out while wiggling steering column, squirt of wd etc. Stuck is the word.
Mr Haynes is rather vague on this matter; does anyone have any cunning tips/ wheezes tricks or stunts to help?? If not I am doomed to drive in anticlockwise circles for evermore........

for 3 quid try having a new one cut

worth a try
or you are into getting the snap off bolts out
or forming a new roundy roundy racing jago part of the club
good luck

Good morning / ?evening Dave!!
Will try that, not sure if anywhere round here cuts keys for £3 anymore though! Perhaps I should move south!
Do you think there is much scope for a crop circle division or should I try for a deal with the local fun fair to get a Jago on their merry go round?
Kids round here just love red cars !!

.....and I bet his name was Bill!!
Cheque sounds good; though money is as good as spent already- seats and lights on the list.

I have effected a temporary solution by pulling out the centre lock cylinder with a small screwdriver by a few millimetres when things return to normal. When it sticks it seems to be stuck in a plunged in position; if that makes any sense. Currntly flooded in WD while I save up for a fresh key which will be needed as a spare anyway.
