Hello

Just to double check, if a line item on a P11D is already in the tax code, it should not then be included in "taxable benefits" section on the self assessment - is that correct?

I think i double charged myself for private medical last year frown

Thanks
Mike

No it has to be included on your tax return as well. If it's in your tax code, it just means the tax is collected at source via PAYE. Therefore you won't pay it on the tax return as well.

Gotcha, thanks. Yes i see now - on the view my calculation page it shows the full tax free allowance, rather than the tax code value.

Cheers!!

Isn't there scope for submitting amendments if you have indeed made an error?

For many people (but by no means all), submitting a Self Assessment tax return is telling HMRC what they already know.

That is why they are abolishing the Self Assessment system in April 2024.

Thanks All. Another question if thats ok.

I've worked from home for the past 10 years but only claimed WFH relief (£4 per week) for the first couple of years and HRMC kept dropping it off my tax code and it became a pain.

I'm thinking of claiming and backdating for this year and prior 3 years as you can go back 4 years.

So thats £4 per week 4*52 = £208 relief and also for this year £6x52 = £312

2016-2017 £208
2017-2018 £208
2018-2019 £208
2020-2021 £312
= £936

Should I add this figure to this years tax return or "amend" the previous ones?

Also when i did originally claim, HMRC would ask for copies of my contract (which says place of work is home address) and also tell me to deduct annual leave from the amount - so 20 days would be 4 weeks less. Is that still correct? There is no information online about that, as far as I could find.

Thanks
Mike

Thanks - see my WFH question above... for backdating claims is it better to go and amend, or just lump it all together and then add a note?
