Having my road dug up currently by Zzoomm internet for fibre to the home, seems reasonably priced, 450/450 for £39 a month, which is a little more than I am paying BT for 50 or so down and a lot less up (not that this is important to me.
Questions, anyone used Zzoomm, any thoughts or feedback?
Also, if they are just putting the cables in now, when I am likely to see supply being switched on?
Zzoomm say they are not in my area yet, but I am sure I saw "later this year" mentioned somewhere, which I realise will not happen.

They've been digging up around here too, though like most other modern services, they've made a point of crossing the road as they go past this house just to make it awkward / impossible to connect me. Maybe they're going up the road on one side, then coming back down this side at some point.

I did ask them what happens if I signed up with them then, at the end of my contract term decided to go elsewhere. Apparently the fibre connection can't be used for anyone else. I'm not sure that's unreasonable, but it did concern me that I'd be getting tied into something with effectively no competition, and it struck me as strange that with a 3-mile radius, we have pavements being dug up by three different internet companies - Zzoomm, Lila and another that I've forgotten.

I'm in a similar boat with a company called Trooli. They are the only FTTP provider in the area and seem to be expanding rapidly. They have stuck a lot of equipment on the telegraph poles everywhere round here.

I am reluctant because it seems like they are laying cable faster than their support teams are growing and there are lots of negative reviews circling (taking 6-8 weeks to install, slow response when internet goes down, etc), but I know that often reviews are one sided.

I suspect (with no evidence whatsoever) that these companies are the cheapest bidder for government backing for rolling out a fibre network. Because they own the cable, they get exclusivity for x years so you leave behind any kind of competition, and you could end up with unlimited price rises after your initial contract expires.

If anyone knows better, I'd like to be told I'm wrong. I wouldn't mind paying the same amount for 300Mb as I do for 80.
