Heard the ‘Happy thanksgiving’ chimed out by Andrew Marr on his show yesterday. Also noticed a couple of posters on my facebook using the expression. There was I thinking that ‘Happy thanksgiving’ was an American term. Is this another attempt in replacement of our traditional greetings terminology.

I think it's nice to send good feelings to people celebrating things like Thanksgiving, Diwali, Chinese new year, Eid etc. What's wrong with being nice to people?

Are you trying to give Gammon a bad name?

If we're going to import something from the US thanksgiving would be a good one.

From what I can tell it is basically Christmas without all the commercial ste.

The Americans do enjoy a bargain in the sales.

Ah, I forgot it's black Friday afterwards.

Though we drink properly in the UK, so everyone would be too hungover for that nonsense.

As long as it's worth under $1000 or whatever it's not a crime to steal it....

I see in one of those links that a security guard was killed whilst protecting thieves from stealing a news crews cameras - https://apnews.com/article/business-crime-san-fran...

The Canadians also celebrate thanksgiving, but theirs is held on the second Monday in October.

It's more akin to our harvest festival, which is around the same time.

Utterly meaningless here though, as it's celebrating the pilgrims making friends with the indigenous people shortly before genociding them.

It's nice to say it to any American friends though.
