F31 LSD and traction control
Discussion
I’ve got a 340i with the Birds B3-40i kit, which includes the LSD of course. It’s brilliant - in the wet and cold conditions last day or so, with Bridgestone RFTs on, it’s been great fun to explore a bit of Sport+ and poking it a bit. Winter tyres going on tomorrow, as it’s actually a bit too much of a handful for a daily driver in the cold on the summer rubber.
My question - in Sport+ the car loosens up the traction control, and I understand on a normal car would use the brakes to calm a spinning wheel to give some sense of rear drive. Any ideas what it might do with an LSD fitted? At the moment it appears to allow quite a lot of slip, but don’t want to be burning rear brakes too much. Does anyone know?

Interesting you raise this. I am looking at these as I have enough of ultra SUVs and might get one for my family needs. But tweak it a bit In case I find a good road to explore..
I guess Birds would be the right place to start with the question.. they should have the answer.
I like their kit. Although a bit on the expensive side these days when you consider how much is a standard B12 kit, admittedly not tweaked to their spec. I think I would want to retain EDC adjustability so the B6 damptronic would suit me best. Although the cost of those is quite high for dampers alone.
BMW also had their own official diff. So that’s also an alternative I could consider.
Or ask birds if they can do their kit with damptronic instead. Let us know what they say !

If you are buying one to upgrade I wouldn't bother with the adaptive dampers to be honest. Cars with them fitted are difficult to find, and they are expensive to upgrade. In my view the Birds suspension is perfect for daily and for pushing on, since getting it I've never felt the need to have different damper settings in any conditions. I couldn't say the same for the previous M-Sport passive set-up I had, which was fine for every day but a bit rubbish for pushing on. I guess Birds would be the right place to start with the question.. they should have the answer.

Birds LSD is relatively affordable compared to the BMW one from memory. Plus the Birds one is a Quaife so lifetime warranty whereas the M-performance diff I believe is a plate-type LSD so requires some maintenance?
I did a reader's cars thread a while back on the upgrade: https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...
I'd put it on none runlet Michelin PS4 or PS4S. It transformed mine with the birds suspension kit on although I didn't have the diff. I'm sure with the diff also fitted they would be even more suitable for your car. Those tyres are night and day better than the original fitment on that car.
Had the full B3 kit uncluding Quaife LSD on my old 335i, transformed the car, have just had the Quaife LSD fitted by Birds to my 440i, still mulling over the suspension upgrade as the car has EDC, run-flats with only a few miles on it. Damptronic with the correctly spring rates might make sense.
