Work Christmas Party - Covid Omicron
Discussion

Is your work having a Christmas party/night out this year?
Is Covid Omicron likely to lead to its cancellation?
We have a booking for our team to go for a sit down meal in what will be a busy restaurant, but I suspect it will get cancelled due to safety concerns.

Yes and going ahead on Friday. It's voluntary and nobody HAS to attend so if anybody is concerned then they can stay home.
However a lot of the team want to attend simply because it's been so long since we've all been together, and hopefully with people being double/triple jabbed we should be fine.

Random variant in among thousands of random variants cancels Xmas. People still standing for all this nonsense? Is your work having a Christmas party/night out this year?

I will eat my hat if this turns out to be anything other than a regular version of Covid.

We have one planned mid next week, I would guess for a team of about 100 people. If it went ahead I'm not sure how many will be there.
I really can't see it happening as we're quite a risk averse company, but it's not been cancelled yet.
If it is cancelled our small team of five will have a self funded trip to the pub, as we do every fortnight, and I'll probably enjoy that more...

Was happening this Thursday, cancelled yesterday - no complaints from me, right decision
Why was it not a good venue?Jim
I haven't been jabbed so I was banned from going to our Christmas work party anyway. Just to add, this is a Christmas party in a public place where the people going will have been on public transport to get there.
That is right, the people I work with will be going to a public place full of people they don't know, who's vaccine status is unknown after travelling there on the train full of people, again vaccine status is unknown.
I am already hearing rumblings from people I work with who think the whole thing should be cancelled due to Omicron.
At my girlfriends work, it would appear the people who are concerned about Omicron are those that would have to travel from Cornwall to London for the party. I am sure this is a complete coincidence and it is not mainly because they cannot be bothered. However, these excuses have now been picked up by the directors and it looks like the whole thing may be cancelled now.

Cancelled yesterday.
Not that I ever go to the UK event.
My place has offices in several places round the world and it always winds me up that the overseas places have transport provided, free drinks, very posh parties and venues etc etc. Luckily I often time my visits to said locations when these are on.
The UK ones are nothing like as good - pay for you own drinks etc etc.
The overseas ones also get pots of bank holidays too.

For non-Covid reasons I wasn't going anyway, but ours has been re-scheduled for end of Jan after "an overwhelming majority" in an online survey favoured postponement. CEO had already dropped out as company policy is not to travel when forced to isolate/test (non-UK CEO).
In other unintended consequence news our small sales team had their "we're all amazing cos we hit our target" bash a couple of weeks ago, half of them now still trying to shake off Covid.
