Thought some of you might be interested in this car gurus video review.
£30k to spend on a fun car they test a new car (GR Yaris) against a 3 year old car (Stinger) and a ‘modern classic’ (996 C2).

I won’t give away their conclusion.

Ironically I bought my 911 with an entirely ropey service history from Ms Jackson. But in fairness it was a lot less than £30k.

Strangely enough I’ve just sold my GR Yaris and bought that exact spec 911. 3.6, Manual 04 plate.

Initial impressions are far more engaging, a lovely noise and a much better seating position. I did love the Yaris (warranty piece of mind being a big plus), however it just never quite ticked the box for me.

Not really a surprise. Try a warm hatch and a fugly saloon and 911 and choose the drivers car.

You know if it's sorted it'll feel nice, pull well and the feedback through the wheels will be on another level from newer cars.

I'm on holiday on Oz ATM and loads of Stingers here. They're nice...Kia is a dark horse... but it was in unfair competition there.

Despite being a hot hatch fan boy who grew up lusting after group B cars I don't get the appeal of the Yaris at all.

Is a 996 C2 really £30k in the current market.

I've had a string of GT911's and a Touring due in March. I've had a CP Gr Yaris since September and have to say, for me, it's a fun car with sensible power for fast B road use. There seems to be a mass of tuning firms churning out mods, one Aussi firm has the Yaris up to 500hp with fairly minimal mods, really quite an amazing engine.

Values have been increasing for some time and for a good clean one with low miles, it's not inconceivable. But the vast majority are significantly cheaper.

Though there is still a ?? over the Gen1 engines ... so you may need your warranty, assuming that you have one ?

997 is a better car in every respect for that money.

997.1 isn't a 50k car, but it still has similar engine issues to a 996.1/.2 so a 996 is a lower entry point to 911's if you need cash in the bank to run it.

A low mileage 997.2 perhaps. £30-35k gets you a nice 997.1

Haha. Personal choice of course, but I can't really think of a 996 model that I would choose over its 997 equivalent.

It always amazes me that so many people are so confused about the subtle differences with regard to issues of the 996.1 - 996.2 - 997.1
