I have been researching the energy industry of late.
I cannot see when super unleaded (SU) for example will no longer be retailed. I am thinking there will always be a way for SU to be retailed as there are so many classics and modern day cars demanding this stuff until that is the goverment takes a high handed approach of course and we all dissapear into the world of illicit stills and refining.

I saw on u Tub somebody had removed their air cooled engine and installed an EV arrangement. I watched for several minutes before I turned it off. From a personal perspective I could not undertand it. So I thought to ask the forum.
How many of you would think about or convert your aircooled or modern day classics to an EV arrangement.

I also saw on u Tub that JCB (Back Hoe and dozer machines) are running a test rig that has converted a diesel engine to run on neat Hydrogen. They also have a digger running on it as well. Apparantly battery and fuel cells are not viable alternatives for JCB. They even had a Hydrogen Fuel Skid container for refuelling. For me this is all interesting stuff.
If Hydrogen was available to run my flat six I would be interested in that. I think this arrangement is feasible as there is an infrastructure quietly being developed for Hydrogen.
How many of you would consider converting to Hydrogen come the hour of no SU.

This leads me as to why I was researching the energy industry. I was offered a position with a company that is producing Hydrogen Skids, Hydrogen retail pumps and so much more as they transition out of Oil and Gas into the new greener energys.
Green Hydrogen is produced from renewable energy. Blue Hydrogen is processed and the CO2 by product is upgraded to Food Standard for freezing.
So I see a tentative link for an alternative fuel. Now I know the Hydrogen prices and the costs are high, however we only to have to look at how battery prices have tumbled by 80% during the last ten years. (Its on the web so it must be true rolleyes) so I think it could be a viable future alternative.

thanks for reading

I wouldn’t convert my car, but I thought was extremely well done.

I agree the conversion looks really nice. I just feel the engine is the heart and part of the package.

Hydrogen powered flat 6 could work but it would be a new engine, turbocharged, big EGR system etc. And then three fuel tank would probably cost more than the engine.

Petrol will be available for many many years and will probably be synthesized in small quantities so cheaper to keep your car stock ( apart from swapping out seals and hoses) and buy a little EV to knock about in.

Surely with an EV conversion it’d be incredibly hard to resolve the handling of the car, given the weight of the batteries and the limitations on their location. Maybe it’d work for posing in the city. I suppose it’d be ok, so long as the matching numbers flat 6 is kept safe in a crate.

We converted Mrs B's 1970 Fiat 500 to electric power last year.

It has turned the car into a willing little scamp that's a hoot to drive. Its far better than when it had its original engine, or even the 126 unit that replaced it.

The work was carried out by Electric Classic Cars who were thorough and professional throughout. I'd recommend them wholeheartedly.

However, I wouldn't let them near my 964.

Horses for courses IMO.
