Un-insured vehicle with no MOT but Taxed parked on street

Hi,

Hopefully a simple question, however I'm struggling to find the correct answer from my local police/gov websites. There has been a vehicle parked on my street since around March that hasn't moved, not even sure who owns it. I've been keeping an eye on its status tax/mot/insurance status, for a while it was taxed and insured with no MOT, but now it is uninsured without MOT (however still has Tax).

Is this enough to report the vehicle, and who should I be reporting it to? One fly in the ointment might be that it appears my road has still yet to be adopted by the council according to fixmystreet (new build, albeit 9 years ago!).

BTW its nothing personal, I park on the drive but it would be nice to have a bit more parking available for the occasional visitor as its taking up an on-street bay.

Interestingly that was my plan earlier in the year as the tax was due to expire in July but somehow they managed to re-tax the vehicle, I thought this wasn't possible without a valid MOT?

But anyway, tax expires in Jan so what's a few more months.

If the police progs are anything to go by, no ins means impounding, ( well if they catch anyone driving it.. not sure if parked)

If you tax online it doesn't check for valid MOT or Insurance any more. don't know why. they take your money then send a fine out for have no insurance or MOT. Probably just paid monthly and continues to role on year on year.

try to tax a car with no MOT or Insurance to find out.

I doubt the police will have very much interest in it at all, if it's never driven anywhere.

Around here, DVLA went round a few of the local blocks clamping cars that had been left untaxed for long periods during lockdown. No police involvement at all AFAIK.

Ah OK, I knew about the insurance as it can take a few days for the insurer to update the MID but I (foolishly it seems) assumed it would query the MOT database as that gets updated instantly, obviously not!

Any who, looks like I am waiting till early Feb to check the tax again.

Considering the whole process of taxing a car is very computerised you do wonder why they don't check MOT and insurance at the same time and if it doesn't match its kerrrchinnggg time. Not as if UK.gov doesn't need the money is it.

Report to local authority (council) as an abandoned vehicle. It's been long enough already, the tax is likely on auto renewal via DD. Owner might well have died for all you know.

Have you try contacting local council?

Last year we have an abandoned car in a council allotment parking without tax and MOT. Obviously abandoned with broken parts. Contact our council, a notice of removal got stick on that car few weeks later, two notice and about a month after the 2nd notice of removal serve, it was tow away (no idea by council or the owner)

MOT status is still checked when taxing a vehicle. If a vehicle needs an MOT then it must have one in order to tax it. This applies whether it is taxed online, at the Post Office or by post.

Since the introduction of CIE regs insurance is no longer checked.

A friend kept a knackered 205 gti (no tax, insurance or MOT) on the unadopted road outside his house for a few years. He got an occasional letter complaining about it not being taxed but on the road from the dvla enforcement teams but pointing out it was on a unadopted road seemed to remove the problem each time.
