Does this rattle sound like the heatshield at all ? It happens mainly when reversing, or even if the car is stationary and I put it in reverse and lift up the clutch...

When driving it rarely makes any noise unless sometimes in 1st gear..

Does the noise change/go away depending on the position of the clutch pedal?

Sounds like a clutch release bearing.

Yes it does. The higher I lift off the clutch, the more it makes the sound ( when in reverse )
When I drive around it stops.

The heat shield underneath the car does look loose but I'm not sure whether that's the culprit

When sat in the car, it's mostly heard behind the driver side ( rear nearside ) which could indicate the heat shield as it's closer to that side

Why not pop past your local garage / fast fit centre of choice and have somebody have a listen and / or put it on the ramps and check, would save guessing. Or resecure the known loose heatshield and see if it solves the problem. If it does, there's your answer... if not, go back to the top.

Thanks.
Yes I will go to the mechanic tomorrow and see what they say. It is booked in for the rear coil springs next week but as it's local I'll go in tomorrow.

Guesswork unless you look underneath, when on a ramp, and attempt to replicate it. Could be a loose or broken exhaust hanger bracket/strap.

I had a terrible whining noise from the passenger seat of my car. Turns out it was the wife.

I thank you!

Yeah it's coming from around the exhaust area, family member had a check underneath and nothing seems obviously loose or anything.
Booked in for the mechanic next week so hopefully they can diagnose it

Took it down to the mechanic and they said they had to " Lubricate the rubber exhaust mount "

After collecting it it seemed to have been fixed. Today however the rattle is back but not as loud

They did say if it continues then take it back down there, maybe next time they'll replace it ?

Think I've fixed it.

Put a tiny bit of thick lithium lubricant and a fair bit of spray silicone around two of the mounts and now the sounds gone.

Both mounts look in good condition.
