If it's printer ink prices that worry you, consider the ink tank printers. Much cheaper ink/running costs, v more upfront costs.

Absolutely - and dirt cheap to buy both for the printer and toners

I have a basic HP printer scanner at home with a subscription service and it’s been fine for nearly two years.

At my office I have an Epsom unit with the ink tanks and the first lot of ink has lasted over a year. Looks like the black will need a refill in the next few months.

If buying again I think I would go for the ink tank type.

Unless you're printing marketing material or photos, go laser.

With the right printer, toner's are cheap and last ages.

They don't mind sitting for long periods, so if you print in bursts then you're not going to be facing the dreaded haven't used the printer for 3 months therefore the ink is expired issues.

If you're printing frequently, they are cheaper to run.

Only if you have access to a color printer too. Otherwise a colour laser.

There isn’t a need from the OP for colour, unless I’ve missed something.

He said Home Printer.

His cat will go missing next week, as another neighbour gives better food, and on the flyers OP will want to put the MISSING and the £100 REWARD bits in red smile

Any printer apart from HP. Why is it necessary to create a HP Smart account if you just want to use the printer for scanning?

I'd also struggle to recommend HP. I've said it on here before and I will say it again, I hate mine with a passion. Nasty build quality and horrid software. I will almost certainly throw mine out of the window at some point. Although it will probably then spray ink all over the drive / car to punish me.

Sticks.

The issue I had with HP printers is the wifi connection keeps dropping. After many hours trawling the Internet for a solution all I found was that they all do it at some point. Directly connected is OK for the money and you don't have to subscribe to buy ink.

Get a laser. Inkjets suck.
