Discussion
I have read a lot about the new Mk2 Tuscan supposedly offering better ride/handling than the mk1 version (even tho I think the Mk1 is better looking, but lets not start that discussion! :)), but I have not read much about it on here.
I know the Sagaris is supposedly a great handling car, but what about the Mk2 Tuscan?
How does the Mk 2 compare to the Mk1 or the Sagaris?
Cheers,

You are bound to hear everyone say that the Tuscan 2 is a superior handling car to the original Tuscan, by all rights it should be. However, this is really considering cars that are unchanged from factory spec.
Subtle suspension pick up point changes were made through the production life cycle of the original Tuscan - mainly to improve the turning circle. This was because the original car was really designed to run on 16" rims, but at the 1999 motorshow, the car revealed there (in crystal topaz!) - had 18" and everyone wanted that.
Also, TVR moved from standard dampers to adjustable. In the T2, they have also introduced an electric steering rack. Again, in general, a T2 should feel better to drive than a T1, not sure if there is a real difference in the performance aspect of the handling. Plus, some of this depends on the quality of the wheel alignment set up, the quality of dampers, the tyres being used etc etc. I follow the premise that a poor handling/riding car can be made into a very good one if given the right skills, tools and components.
I think the conclusion about the Sagaris is that it is the best handling TVR, ever.

You learn something new every day - I did not realise 16" rims were the standard on Tuscans. I must have never ever seen one with wheels that size on. Bet they look a little lost.
I have heard the Mk1 handling described in many ways - like its just waiting for a chance to kill you, for example. As yet, I have not really read any that suggest the Mk2 is massively different.
True what you say tho - the Sagaris reviewers/owners all seem to indicate that that Sag handling is a lot more communicative and predictable, losing some of the 'edge-iness' of other TVRs.
Potential TVR owners like myself seem to focus on a couple of neagtives - potential reliability problems and potential death.
Both aspects of TVR ownership which can be addressed some way or another.

My Mk1 was transformed by a new set of tyres and an all round tracking. I reckon with an adjustable set of dampers it could be better but don't want to spend the cash (waiting for an engine issue !). As with may TVRs a sorted car can be better than a newly delivered car.
I agree witht the opinion that the Sag is probably the best handling Tiv.

I've driven both "Sagaris & Tuscan2 S, to be honest at low speeds there was no difference at all, for me the handling and performance at low speed was what I wanted to see for myself, how they performed as most of the time that's how they are used.
My own MK1 has the original 16" wheels as built and with the exception of A/C all original parts as yk 2000 spec are still there.
Although I'm no Jensen Button I've had the car through it's paces, the only time I've ever been uncomfortable is when I've required new rear tyres and then running the new tyres in, I took the cheap option of replacing the tyres, replaced like for like but not at a TVR dealer, I could have paid the ultimate penalty for doing so as any speed above 90ish I was like Torville & Dean.
I had the car checked out and there appeared to be nothing wrong, since the check it's been as before but believe me I felt as though there was something wrong.
MK1 vs MK2, you gotta move forward if you can, when I can do it,I will.
Best Regards,
James Sim.

James - Your last statement makes a lot of sense.
I really would only hope that the 'bite' has been removed from the Mk2 version. Depending on finances when the time comes, hopefully a Mk2 will be an option (but a financial stretch). As with any car I get (2nd car), there will be days when the wife needs to use it to get to work. I would rather she was not 'bitten'.
Watched the Top Gear with the Sagaris on again last night and it really does look bloody planted.

I've had a Mk 1 S and I now have a Mk 2 S. Totally different car. Much better. The power is more usable. The ride is much more compliant and the handling is greatly improved. Just done 4000 miles in southern Spain. Fantastic!
Coming to the Tuscaneers weekend then Clive? (You can always go to Tatton on the Sunday).
