Totally hypothetical obviously. But suppose one of your offspring appeared likely to marry someone who was perfectly fine in every respect as an individual, but also happened to be UK royalty and a potential monarch. How would you react?

I wouldn't want my kids to marry beneath them.

As if someone could genuinely hold 'no opinion' on the matter. Nonsense.

I can't imagine not "having an opinion" on something that affected people close to me in such a significant way. We all want the best for our kids (I assume) so I'm surprised if there was anything significant they did on which we wouldn't have an opinion. I have an opinion on what my kids eat, what they wear, who their friends/acquaintances are, what time they wake up/go to sleep. Whether I share my opinion with them is a different matter.

Sure, as long as they foot the bill for the wedding.

What's that darling, you're marrying a member of the British Royal family? OK, whatever...I have no opinion on that at all. Now to important stuff, what's for tea? Hope its not pasta again.
