What on earth is happening with these used AM prices
Discussion
This looks to be completely bonkers to me?! I looked at some others cars on the Rybrook website and they don't look to be too high compared to the rest of the market, but this just looks crazy, a couple of real chancers. I then notice that Rapide S models between 2014 and 2019 are up at £90k to £100k. Do we think these are real world prices or people rolling the dice and crossing their fingers?

1 by Mark Maddox, on FlickrDice rolling & finger crossing is definitely part of it, I have never seen more Aston Martins for sale that I have now.
The other factor is that is your mundane German diesel saloon has increased in value from £15000 to £20000 because of the used car stock shortage then it's obvious that someone will extrapolate to make £150K to £200K.
I also know a chap who has a few interesting cars and they are always for sale at about 15% above market in the hope that they sell and it keeps is 'off balance sheet' in his wife's eyes.
Lots of factors which make me feel this is a bubble and it will soften within the next 18 months.

Some of the prices at the moment are just silly, some of it is chancers but there is genuine price inflation due to supply. I picked up an old Leaf a year ago, it’s worth more as a direct sale to WBAC than I paid and the private sale price is at least 25% up. If I sold my 2011 Rapide, I’d guess it’s up 10-15%, but not 25% or more.
The £200k rapide amr has been around a while, originally I think it was listed around £140 iirc, and then whoever is selling it has been putting the price up regularly. The last amr rapides I was looking at were around £120k only a couple of months ago, those pictured above are certainly outliers.
Overall I have noticed aston prices softening in the last month or so. V12Vs prices have been slowly coming back down, db11 amr, vanquish too (thats what I look at).
To me it looks like the bubble has started to deflate on these, plus it is seasonal.

Oh so it seems the DBX,s are not moving?
I don't think we really know yet.
Those two adverts might suggest, an independent dealer hoping for new model premiums.
The problem for them now might be, if you were buying a new DBX, you would almost certainly want to purchase from a main dealer.
Prices on many cars are 20+ % up according to a German base over all...
so, thats why the cars I like are all at least 20% up since 2020 were I thought normally all my years of driving and buying cars would go down that kind of % the year later...
for example, AMG GT-R 220 a nice one low km from 116k euro in Germany, now if you can find one same specs accident free et, at least 140+k for same=ish GT-R its not fair when you were hoping to buy one if all went well/normally.

Must be selling like hot cakes.

I would tend to agree with this, I have spent the last couple of years watching the Vantage market and this last 12 months has been crazy! However over the last month I’ve definitely noticed a slight ‘thaw’ in prices, only slightly - but it could be the beginning of the end for the bubble. To me it looks like the bubble has started to deflate on these, plus it is seasonal.

could be indeed, for some sort cars it looks a bit that way, I hope so, because I still did not bought anything yet :-) I would like something special, but not at such special price were normally there would not be such prices...but a lot is crazy the last year(s) some intentional creating shortages for some 'goals' to create? (chaos?)
Luckily I've heard some good news from 'our' new world (spokesman) leader Klaus Swans, he said, You will own nothing and will be Happy

and I do trust that guy

My thoughts
1. AM is financially circling the drain, and if they fail it would mean no more AM's being made, making the remaining ones more valuable.
2. With the ISA system being fitted to all new cars starting next year, if you have a car that doesn't have the ISA speed limiter it's going to be worth a lot more than one that has.
2021 Vantage, top speed,195.
2022 Vantage, top speed, 70.
Which one will increase in value?

Reading here, from 2024 the ISA will be mandatory for all.
From 2022 only for new models. What I cannot understand is if a MY change or a major restyling will fall under "new model".

When I first read your post, I pictured DB4 owners having to fit GPS equipment (with BMW shark roof antennas), electronic gadgetry and haptic accelerator pedals (whatever they are).
Was relieved to see that these new rules are for EU members (so might not be enforced for French cars) and are not applicable to all existing older cars. They will need to tweak the rules, to slow traffic on unrestricted German autobahns.
The next step might be to impose this on all the EU Formula One circuits, then Mr. Mazepin could become joint World Champion, with all the other 19 drivers. -

'From July 2022, Intelligent speed assistance (ISA) will be mandatory for new models/types of vehicles introduced on the market.
The ISA will become mandatory for all new cars that will be sold from July 2024
(therefore it will not concern the vehicle fleet already registered and in circulation before that date)'.
Watching auctions recently I have seen a couple of 1970's V8 cars go under the hammer for c£80k.
Now to me this seems a rational value point for these cars, yet the specialist dealers are still punting them out at £150k.
Some have been for sale for a rather long time.
I have the sneakiest suspicion that the market is well past it's peak, and is probably saturated, whereby everyone who had £150k to spend & wanted a DBSV8 / V8 / Virage has probably got one by now.
I'm using the 1986 - 1996 E-Type price curve as a prediction for what is to come.

I bought a Vantage from a main dealer last April. 18 months old, 8k on the odo, paid just under £94k. The cheapest one I can find on PH now with a similar spec is just under £100k although that has an Alcantara interior. With leather it's £102k. Whether anyone buys one at that price is of course a different question.
Well, it might not be representative of the UK market, but I found an N420 exactly like mine for sale in France, the same country where I bought mine: same mileage, same spec, same wheels, same everything really.
Only thing that changed is the price tag, it's 15k more than what I paid for mine in spring 2019 with around 20k km less.
Not complaining.
