My chim will be stored temporarily over the winter in a friend's garage, while I repair the roof on mine. Unfortunately there is no power in the garage so i won't be able to run a trickle charger. I decided to fit a battery brain instead to protect the battery, in case I'm not able to regularly go round and start the car.

Anyway I fitted it this afternoon, but when I use the remote key fob to isolate the battery, the alarm siren starts chirping away, albeit at low volume. It sounds like the alarm is activated but doesn't have enough voltage to activate the siren.

This doesn't happen when I disconnect the battery, which makes me wonder if the battery brain is fully isolating the battery. Has anyone else fitted one of these and had similar issues. Alternatively is this more likely to be an issue with the alarm or siren itself.

The siren will have a back up battery inside. On my Porsche with a BB fitted I've disconnected the siren.

I’d agree with that, if it’s the original alarm then the back up siren battery will probably be long past it’s best anyway.
I can’t quite remember if most older alarms go into sounding if battery is disconnected as part of the tamper feature.

FYI I’ve installed a battery brain with the later Carl Barker upgrade of meta alarm (new siren and battery) and have had no false alarm issues when used.
When I had my original meta and battery I used an isolation switch also with no problems.

The possibly of alarm issues has been discussed on various pistonheads threads previously but no real resolve.

Is your alarm definitely the original meta? And wired correctly? (Sorry to ask the wiring is basic) I know different settings on the meta alarm can be adjusted so maybe this is the problem?
But you say the alarm does not go off when manually disconnected which points to the battery brain being the issue.

What model BB do you have? Does the alarm go off when using both the BB remote and manual button on top of the solenoid?

Any photos of the install?

The other way around it is disconnect the battery with the car unlocked then manually lock the doors

I'll need to go back round to the garage with a meter and check if the battery brain is properly isolating the battery. Unfortunately couldn't make it this afternoon as the wife insisted on getting the Xmas tree up.

The battery brain is the newer model without the button on top, so only works from the key fob, I've double checked the install and I'm pretty sure it's correctly wired. The alarm is the original meta unit, but I will double check the siren.
