I wonder why PH has never had a "show us your lighting" thread? I'll bet there are dozens of closet lighting fanatics in here.

Can you share a few details about style, colour scheme of the room etc, or a photo of the desk area?

What other lighting is the room already? Are you invested in any existing systems (e.g. Philips Hue)?

Are you after a functional task light, or a statement piece?

Got a budget in mind?

I had quite a long look at the Atelier Desk lamp

And then cheaped out and bought an Ikea Forsa, which is less lovely but more flexible and approx 1/8 the price

I went for a monitor light (BenQ). Works very well. No screen glare and better for my eyes (I’m a photographer so spend a lot of time here editing).

Is the colour temperature accurate though?

Nice workstation, and kudos for the Audioengine A2s as well. I've got those in red, and they're a great balance of desk space vs sound.

It’s adjustable via the puck (as is the brightness). Because the light doesn’t hit the screen it’s not affecting on-screen colour.

Great minds. These are the HD4’s though. Very impressive.

A little selection (posed shot, that's not how they normally live).

Concrete cube with edison bulb, and concrete uplighter with a Hue colour G10, Astro Enna desk light in matt nickel, red A2s (with nod of admiration to the HD4s!)

The desk is backlit with Innr LED tape along the back edge, which is much cheaper than Hue LED tape, but still compatible.

Thanks.

The desk is made from reclaimed scaffolding boards so wasn't expensive to construct and has loads of character.

The lamp was a find on Etsy: https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/787770401/modern-g...

It looks to have been made in a sacrificial 3D printed mould, hence the seemingly impossible shape. I love it.

(I swapped out the E27 fitting it came with for a GU10 to get the effect I was looking for.)

My 15 year old Anglepoise is going strong.

But on a recent trip to John Lewis showed me that the build materials maybe aren’t what it use to be.

I didn’t realise Astro did an Atelier desk lamp. We have the wall lamp either side of our bed, they’re very nice.

As for a desk lamp, I’d look for a vintage Anglepoise. I inherited a 1968 Model 75 and it’s fantastic. They can be had for reasonable money on eBay.
