Engine Piston melted on head

what do you think has happened to this piston ?



part of piston is melted on head cylinder. it is obviosuly heat and want to get some thoughts/opinion

Ignition timing is out.

Looks like detonation to me but the causes of thet could be several. Can you post up some closer pics of the damaged areas?

There are no pictures of the head ?

And some very low res pictures of a piston with likely detonation damage.

Get good pics of the top of the pistons, the plugs and cylinder head.

What was the head gasket like ?

Details of the engine/install ?

Detonation damage,no question , could be timing, overboost, poor qualiity fuel, leaning off, quite a few possible causes. A little more data / pictures required, head gasket, head etc.

Excess carbon deposits causing detonation possible, but can't really add to what's already been suggested.
