It's been burning since Saturday and they haven't found a way to put the fire out.

Yep, however it's not under control still as of this morning. Every time they stop the water monitors it flares back up again.

Sounds a bit like the problem the Titanic had with a fire in its coal bunker. The actual fire was difficult to reach

They're all having a go: https://www.marinetraffic.com/en/maritime-news/art...

A couple of 'military ops' small craft are there too at the moment.

The latest plan is they will tow it into Gothenburg tomorrow and unload the burning cargo and also the ships fuel, by this point it will have been on fire for a week.... and the crew have been onboard throughout!

The crew probably, quite rightly, take the view that clambering about on the top of a lit bonfire to gain access to the burning material is outside their remit.

Presumably the cargo is in an open hold or on deck so can't be easily smothered?

Yup, blow it up first to make sure it sinks?

It went out eventually.

That's pretty common. Salvage what you can and then get access to the hold required.

It's burning wood, surely that would float?

How about pumping CO2 in, rather than spraying water over the top?

What, and create a fizzy drinks shortage before Christmas??? Get to Tesco now to fill that trolley.
