I worked in Mexico for several months back in 2007 - 2011, near Monterrey.

When we were first visiting it was fantastic, vibrant, cosmopolitan and I loved visiting. We spent many great nights out in the city, it clubs and bars. On my last visit I was flown in and out in two days, met with armed guards who never left my side, was not allowed to visit anywhere except the hotel and factory and the guards slept in the room next door to me in the hotel. The guards drove a blacked out SUV and looked like something from Reservoir Dogs. I didn't feel like a target at all!!!

Such a shame for it to start seriously spreading to the holiday resorts.....

“Guests at the Hyatt Ziva Riviera Cancun had to run for cover during the attack, which was described as a targeted execution.

Two weeks earlier, a Californian travel blogger and a German tourist were killed in a similar shooting in the beach town of Tulum.

Three other tourists - two German men and a Dutch woman - were injured.

Following Tuesday's shooting, Cancun's beaches were being patrolled by Mexican marines with bulletproof vests, helmets and rifles.
