I have 7 cars and perform maintenance on them all myself. 4 of these cars will run happily on a good quality (dexos) 5w30 like Mobil1. To save money, where is the best place to purchase 60L barrels of oil? Thanks

I'd imagine if you contacted Opie Oils they could sort you out.

Thanks. I just scrolled to the bottom of their website and saw they have trade accounts so I've signed up, as technically a few of these cars are used for my business.

I normally trawl ebay & pay under 1/2 normal retail price for an in-spec oil from a known brand.

I use rapid auto parts in Bradford, usually via ebay.

They do a lot of oils in 20 litre tubs which I like, easier to handle and move around vs a huge barrel but still makes the oil good value compared to 5 litre tubs.

I wish theyd not do all that discount code nonsense though, its almost as bad as buying something from ECP!

Just have low, consistent, competitive prices. I'd be more likely to use them if they did.

Don't worry about brand names myself.

I simply buy the spec I need from whoever is selling 20 ltr of it cheapest when I need it on ebay.

Try Broughton Lubricants for Castrol. The best placed I've found to buy the wierd spec I need for the JLR 5.0 engine. Been using them for a few years and they've always been cheapest online and delivery has always been spot on.

Ebay is good for this kind of thing. First page of results when searching for "60l 5w30". It appears buying 12x5l plastic tubs is cheaper than a metal barrel. I bought a 20l plastic barrel before for a good price there a while ago.

Still happy with the RapidAutoParts oil? Anyone else ordered from them?

I have no experience with them, and they offer the best price for the 20L tub of the oil I’m after but I’m a bit hesitant about fluids on eBay. I was spooked a bit by a few Google reviews where customers received unopened containers and another receiving a drum of used or factory reject oil. Pinch of salt tales there, but you do need to trust the stuff you are pouring into your engines is what you think you are putting in!

Not guaranteeing anything but I've had a few 20 litre tubs from them. All came fully sealed and appeared genuine to me. None of the cars I've used the pull in have ever had any oil related issues.

I use two oils, because prefer a Diesel specific oil in the Diesel engine.

When i need some in the next 6 months i'll keep an eye on ebay and when the right 20/25 litre bulk buy crops up at the right price get it bought, been doing this for years.
Have used all sorts of makes, from Exol and Morris independents to Elf Shell and Castrol big names, funnily enough the oil that produced the rattliest Diesel noise even after a very short time in the sump was a product of the big names which since avoided normal quiet running resumed.

Have seen the odd seller on the online marketplace who maybe appears a little too cheap compared with everyone else for a highly regarded branded product.

But at least with ebay you get to see the bad places to buy from by doing due diligence & reading reviews.

I wonder if Branded Oil is copied like car parts are on ebay.
Lots of Bosch electrical stuff at a tenth of proper prices.
Funnily enough, it doesn't work properly!

I wonder how many people buying cheap oil from an unknown source would take the trouble to check the quality and spec of the oil they get. I suspect the majority of customers would be happy as long as it has the right logo and looks vaguely like oil.
