I have been considering getting back into a full fat Range Rover. I have had a couple in the past - an L322 TDV8 and a Classic. I had a love hate relationship with both really. Reliability issues on the L322 and rust on the Classic, each time I swore I wouldn't go there again as there was always something to worry about. But there is no denying they are great when working.
As an alternative I am also considering a MK2 Touareg, a RR Sport or a Cayenne. I tend to drive on windy Yorkshire B roads a lot and a range rover can lurch around corners so something that is better in that regard would be great too. I am looking for something relaxing, a bit luxurious but also practical and tough. I drive about 5k miles a year. Budget of £20k max really. Any thoughts on reliability and cost of ownership of the other options? Anything else I should be considering at that budget? Any advice appreciated

Whatever you purchase in that class of vehicle they are not going to handle like a sports car, that is just the reality of it.They are an SUV, nothing more.If you want reliability RR is not the way to go.They have a terrible reputation in that area, sure they are nicely appointed etc..Euro’s?Again,not exactly cheap on the maintenance side.Research & drive anything that takes your fancy.Make sure you have a contingency plan(money put aside for the inevitable.)Dare I say look @ Japanese?Even Genesis might be worth a look, quite pricey though.Good luck whatever you purchase.
