Compromises and what really matters
Discussion
After spending months looking, stalking, writing and re-writing lists, we bought recently.
In the end two things which were very high on the list of "must haves" fell by the wayside.
My point?
When you find something that tickles your thing, do it.
What did we leave by the roadside?
1) Load lugging
2) High end stereo
We got a Ghibli S.
Small boot aperture which will annoy over time
Average stereo and infotainment.
What did we get?
That noise on cold start-up
It's quick.
So comfy
It's a Maserati!
Kudos on the school run (A 10 year old told me I was a cool dad!). Other dad's and mum's nodding.
Hippies and lefties scowling, which I love.
Q: What would you leave behind for 'that feeling'?

Congrats on the Ghibli, lovely looking car!
This time round I sacrificed practicality (small boot, cramped rear seats) performance and MPG (late 20's over the early 40's i'm used to) in favour of a peaceful, wafty, extremely reliable (touch wood) mile munching ride with a great sound system.
I certainly wont be getting any comments or nods of approval during the school run unfortunately, this one prefers to keep it's head down and do it's job

I'm easily pleased because my two non-negotiables were cup holders and heated seats
And with modern cars this is now standard.
But a several years ago when money was tight I drove an old astra with no cupholders, it was the worst!
Never used cupholders for cups. Could easily be omitted.

Auto air-con, and autodim interior mirror would be my top must haves, probably.

Petrol is a non-negotiable for me
And me. As well as RWD and a manual gearbox - I compromised a few times with Autos in the past but always wished I hadn't!

Wish I'd learnt to compromise earlier this year.
I chose a car that ticked all the boxes for spec.................. and I f
king hate it.
So hats off to you for getting something you actually like !

Our long time first choice was a C63, W205. However, now we are in the Ghibli the quality and sexiness of the cabin is purringly lovely.
Looking at the Trident, for now anyhow, is cool.
I think that if we had followed your path we would have been so happy but now I am looking at the Trident I can't help but feel we have found a gem.
Impetuosity runs strong in our house. Thinking can be the end of many a cool idea.
I still want a C63 but have shifted to the W204 6.2 instead in estate format

My only non-negotiables were <£30k, room for family of 5, ≥6 cylinders, >350 bhp and a car I look back every time I park it. So I got a Ghibli S too.In the end two things which were very high on the list of "must haves" fell by the wayside.
