Hi There,

I'm looking at buying a relatively cheap but high mileage (150k+) Golf MK7 2013 1.6 TDI Bluemotion .

Its had its Timing belt and water pump replaced and has a FSH otherwise with dealer history.

Would there be any pitfalls to going for this? The insurance etc is right in the bracket I need it too.

Any advice would be welcome? I only plan on doing about 9/10k miles on a year and would like it to last 3/4 years.

Thanks

The only thing I'd be concerned about would be that the DPF may be heading towards end-of-life. However it's done decent milage over it's life so it may be still good if it's had a chance to do perform regenerations and do it's job properly.

The interiors rattle like fk too. Mine did on 50K miles did and my Mother's 22K miler does too.

Depending on when it was done it might need doing again soon - VW UK say every 5yrs or 130K miles, whichever is first.

All VAG cars tend to eat suspension bushes which generally means replacing whole arms etc. Easy enough but can start to add up if you're paying a garage to do it.

my concern would be around the DPF and the DMF. Replacing either will cost the best part of a grand.

Also bear in mind when you come to sell it with 200K miles nobody will want it.

DMF would be on the radar at that mileage - but I have a passat of similar miles and its going strong with no advisories (DMF is rattling tho).

We tend to give up on cars v early in this country, if its well serviced, good MOT history and right price?

Thanks for all your responses so far!

I’ve called the dealer, he’s told me that the thermostat has also been updated and there’s other serviced parts that are on the history.

Gonna go give it a test drive on Friday to see.

Are there any known faults on the electric handbrakes on these models?

Your annual mileage sounds a bit low for this car. How many miles are you doing per journey, on average? If the miles are too low & the car isn’t getting warm enough, that DPF will start giving you expensive problems sharpish, especially as it is already high mileage.

As mentioned the clutch & DMF might need doing soon, which will likely be £1000+, even at an indy
