Moto G series is always well rated and decent value.
My wife has had a couple of them, and they seem to do the job. What's important to him? Big screen? Camera quality? Huge buttons?
There are plenty of cases to go on most types of phone on Amazon / eBay, so if he's anything like my Dad, you should be able to keep him happy.

See if you can get a Xiaomi. I've got a Note 8 Pro, 64mp camera, 128gb storage / 6gb ram, runs on Android. Paid £85 last year for mine in one of their sales and it's brilliant for the money. Big screen though at 6.67 inches.
Those specs are great and higher than the Nokia/Moto.I'll check on amazon.
Argos are still selling the Moto G9 Play for under £100:

I have one myself, having had several G phones in the past.

This. The xiaomi phones are great value. check amazon and the xiaomi app (or look on uk hot deals)The line up is huge and confusing but the note 8, note 9, note 10, poco are all great value. Our youngest has a note8 pro as above, other daughter has the note 10S 5g (128gb/6gb/48mp camera) and I have a poco x3. All were around £130 to buy and it would be really difficult to get better value.
