Does anyone know if I should have a piece of trim that runs along the top of the windscreen, in this channel:

Cheers

Looks like the screen has been fitted too low in the frame. On my F31, that rubber trim on the top of the screen is touching the roof. There shouldn't be a gap.

If it’s the original glass, any chance it’s been removed/refitted (badly) at any point ?

No idea; but can't see why it'd have been removed etc

Spoke to Cotswolds BMW and they're not 100% sure either; all they get is a diagram and that's it...

There is a trim piece; but that doesn't mean is IS fitted from what they said

But it's £30 delivered; so ordered it and will see what it looks like when it turns up

Only reason I could think of removing a good front screen, is to replace a headlining.

Can't see what that'd be done either as my F01 has no sunroof etc

The guy at Cotswolds said see if it fits and if so, use it and if not, send it back etc...

Been looking at pics online and there are a lot of F01s with that channel there...

Will see what happens

Difficult to tell conclusively but it does look like the correct trim.

It's an underglass trim which sticks on like this one:

NB: not my hand.

Sometimes the trim can look a bit iffy if say the windscreen has been removed and refitted; has been 'set' incorrectly,r that the rood has been painted or wrapped.

You will need to remove the windscreen to fit it.

Thanks. Deffo no respray either as my pal checked the car over when I had the bumpers and wing mirror caps resprayed etc...

So is the trim to be fitted before or after the glass has been installed?

Before. Windscreen out > attach trim > refit windscreen. You will find a few tutorials of DIYers demonstrating how to fit something like this with the windscreen in situ. If you want to do it correctly: windscreen, most definitely, OUT.
