I have 3 bt wholehome wifi AP into a 100mpbs poe switch, along with some cctv kit. I am having issues with the hubs falling over. Would a 1gigabit switch likely solve any of these issues?

Unlikely.

If it's only got the bandwidth to serve 100mb on its backbone then possibly but likely no but really a better switch never hurts

Just checked the switch (Netgear fs116p) and the cable from the router is flashing 10mb while everything else is on 100mb. will investigate but the router is relatively new technicolour from shell broad band.

That would make things a little slow (although for normal web browsing and video calls 10 Mb is fairly tolerable) but wouldn't make the discs fall over. What symptoms do you experience?

10mb sounds more like a knackered cable to me

The discs loose connection then come back on. Might be worth replacing the cable.

Do they retain connection to your CCTV hardware? That would confirm the connection from the switch to the router is the root cause.

Or poor auto negotiation.

Either way 10Mb to the router will be a big bottleneck and will swamp the switch.

Il order a new cable today. It's about 25m from the modem to the switch. Cat5 or 6?

That distance definitely cat6 if you want a 10Gb on your 100Mb switch…

The first thing I’d do is plug in a laptop to the switch end of the cable and see if it negotiated to 1Gb and run a speed test if that stays at 10Mb try rebooting the router, still at 10Mb try the laptop on another router port and cable.

Not saying it’s not the cable but you can do some fault finding first to confirm it’s not the router

When you says 'hubs' what exactly do you mean and are you powering anything over PoE?

And what are the symptoms of the BT whole home premium discs falling over? Are you losing wifi connection, devices rebooting or lack of data throughput?

Exactly the sort of questions that need asking before more kit is bought.

OP - you need to isolate the problem.

What is the problem you're experiencing? Not being able to connect to your network? Or can you see physical LEDs on the discs that make you aware they've dropped their connection?

Do you have a shorter network cable that you can try? Try your laptop in it and test the connection stability. Then try each disc in turn and see what happens.

How is everything being powered? (I ditched a bunch of Netgear switches eventually as the power supplies kept giving up the ghost, and when they did, behaviour was very random).

After buying a new cable I had the same results. The original cable was actually running at 100mb but I wasn't reading the green light correctly! But the bt whole homes still drop out. The devices say they are connected but have no internet. I spoke to BT who told me to turn band steering off but this hasn't made that much of a difference. I will double check the technicolour modem and check the logs on there. I don't think it is this as there are plenty of people on the net who have exactly the same issues. I wish id kept the original whole home system as that was pretty faultless. If this carries on then I'm going to replace it. Is ubiquiti the best route? And if so which one. 4 bed modern detached. At the moment I need 2 whole homes to cover the house (ax3700). So unsure if a long range ubquiti would do the entire house.

I would be checking the RF chanels the units have set, if they are on auto they could all be on the same channel and blocking each other. I would set each one manually to a different channel for each band.

Also check the router to make sure everything has got an IP Address assigned, if using DHCP i.e. auto assign the address but some routers have limits to the number of addresses available and it could have run out.

Other thing to try is disconnecting so you only have 1 connected and see if things improve.

If you plug a laptop/computer directly into the switch, do you get internet connectivity?

If you just plug one access point into the switch (as close to the switch as you can), can you connect to the access point via WiFi? Can you then connect another device direct to the switch? Can the two devices see one another? (If you're on Windows, click "Network" in file explorer - does it show anything? Are you familiar with Ping? Can you ping one device from the other?).

Ubiquiti kit is very good but more complicated to set up.
