"Quidditch to change name, citing J.K. Rowling's 'anti-trans positions'"

I remember a long time ago some students in a college in America pretending to play Quidditch but thought it was just them having a laugh. Turns out there is US Quidditch and Major League Quidditch. There are actually grown men and women pretending to play Quidditch.

I'm sure JK Rowling's Christmas has been utterly ruined.

The real reason for the change is, of course:

The leagues say there are a few reasons for the name change. among them is that the name "quidditch" is trademarked by Warner Bros., which produced the "Harry Potter" movies, and as a result the sport's expansion has been limited in its sponsorship and broadcast opportunities.
"among them" my arse.

But surely even if they change the name, the actual sport is based on the fictional game from the books/films.

I'm sure there are enough ways to make the game distinct.

The name less so and we all know how litigious and protective companies can be of their brands.

Mate, I don't think they're actually flying. If you look closely at the picture above you can see they're all at ground level.

They could follow the naming model they use for their version of Rugby;

American Basketball
American Netball
Etc.

A bearded man seriously playing this game. There is not enough cringe in the world. Absolutely fking pathetic.

As for the trans issue, I hope those getting all offended at JK undercook their turkeys this year and spend a week stting themselves inside out.

I would love it if JK wrote another Harry Potter book, revealing that Harry in adulthood is six feet tall, and defeats the dwarfish spawn of Voldemort along with his mardy-arsed acolytes.

Ha ha I wonder if they know the origins of the use of the broomstick as depicted in the movies and, therefore, their game?

The vulgar believe, and the witches confess, that on certain days or nights they anoint a staff and ride on it to the appointed place or anoint themselves under the arms and in other hairy places.
The realisation of such may well see sweeping changes afoot!

One of the benefits of being old enough to have a beard is not worrying about what the cringers think. He's probably having a great time.

I wish I had learnt this sooner in life.

How life has changed - a grown man (whatever) with a broom stick between his(it’s) legs prancing around a pitch like my granddaughter on her pink hobby horse would have had the piss ripped out of him(zim) - still that’s progress for you.

Are you getting worked up because you think the person in the image is transgender?

I didn’t mention a beard.
