New four-part drama on BBC1 just now. Don’t know what to make of it so far.

Doesn't matter, the plot is of secondary import, main thing is the BBC is making a
massive statement of future intent by giving the lead roles to black actors.

The Gods of diversity sated its trebles all round.

Whilst making the only white main actor look bad and neanderthal-like.

Indeed - Is PH actually a subsidiary of the Daily Fail?

I watched the first episode, it reminded me, in mood, of that thing with the rich bloke trying to recreate scenes from history inside a big box held up with magnets, although the actual plot doesn't seem similar (or maybe it does, actually, now I think about it...)

Anyway, I'll probably give the second episode a go and see if I want to persevere.

Interesting.

Easy to get confused between women and time lines, so need to concentrate.

Me too, Jane has a mole on her top lip. It’s a decent watch, not the most gripping but I’ll stick with it.

The last BBC drama I watched all the way through was The Night Manager - I think it was the last and most recent genuine drama (without any quotas or other PC interference) the BBC made.

It seems all TV dramas now are produced in a Woke bubble for a marginal audience and they are made to educate and condition, rather than entertain, us. Shame really, but thank goodness for the reruns on cable…

Just FYI.

13% of the UK population is non white and under 5% of the actors we see on the BBC are non white.

There have been more complaints about the BBC being a reactionary right wing government mouthpiece over the past year than those shouting and complaining 'woke'.

The Beeb has an almost impossible task. Whether you hate the organisation for being too left wing or too right wing, it brings in massive amounts of cash into the country, and its news services are considered the best in the world. Not by us Brits, but by pretty much everyone else (dictatorships and Trump supporters notwithstanding). The notion of 'Global Britain' has the BBC front and centre in the eyes of millions worldwide.

Depressing direction this thread is taking.

Watched episode 2 last night. Series is a bit slow so far but interested enough to see where it goes.

Anybody else confused as to why it's sometimes Forgate St & other times Folgate Street? (I've only seen 3 out of 4, so if it's crucial don't say!

It's not an actual house, it's a fake facade for the exterior shots and the rest is filmed in a studio.

FYI not sure where you got your figures but they are totally off.

For all broadcasters - 22.7% BAME representation vs population of 13%

Breakdown by broadcaster - BBC is 26.6% BAME representation vs population of 13%

These are from an annual report by Creative Diversity Network (late 2020 figures)

https://creativediversitynetwork.com/wp-content/up...

Interesting but totally off-topic I'm afraid.
