seems like porsche have finally announced that the Panamera will be built - front engined rear wheel drive based on a new chassis.. looks like a 4door 911- no surprises there I guess, with a back end that is reminiscent of the 928.. well the glass hatch is anyway!! seen a computer generated image, but can't upload it at the mom.

I read somewhere that the engine line up is likely to be Cayenne based 4.5, Cayenne based 4.5 turbo, and possibly Carrera GT based V10.

A V10, four door, super slinky Porsche sounds like the family car of the future to me.

A bit like a Merc CLS (which i think looks fabulous in the flesh).

I reserved judgement on it until I saw it in the flesh...and....to my mind it's hideous, especially in silver.

As to the 4 door Porsche - tough market there...they've already diluted the brand with the Cayenne, let's hope they have the funds to weather another economic downturn otherwise we could see Daimler-Chrylser swallow them up.

It looks Ok, but as I don't need/want such a car I find it hard to care.
I wonder if enough of the well heeled buying public will care enough to open the chequebook?

IMHO the Merc’ is a bit of a pig. Suffers from the high roof line fat arse disease that gave the world mini-mpv's - it is bulky and in-elegant.

Porsche's design conservativism is it’s strengths and is why their designs become timeless- because they don’t change (too much) over time. Evolution not revolution ? Dynamics should come first – always and a low centre of gravity is paramount. Sure the artists impressions are deliberately “sleeked” but basically this is about as good as 4 seater can ever look.
